beorg is a separate implementation of a subset of what Org mode can do. It does however support org-contacts style BIRTHDAY properties for displaying them in the agenda. For example you should find the following works:
* John Smith :PROPERTIES: :BIRTHDAY: 2000-09-24 :END:

I seem to be unable to get birthdays displayed in beorg's agenda even though I do see them in org-mode agenda on my desktop. What am I missing?
